You may need French Student Visa to study in France according to nationality. If you are not from the EU/EEA or Switzerland visa is required. Otherwise just valid passport is enough.
French Student Visa
There are some different types of French Student Visa. Types change according to how long you will stay in France and programme. These are:
- Schengen short-stay student visa: This visa is also known as Visa de court séjour pour etudes. If your programme takes less than 3 months and you leave country in three months; you need to apply for this visa. This visa is free and cannot be renewed.
- Visa for sitting entrance exams: It called “visa de court séjour étudiant concours”. You can go France and sit an entrance exam of the higher education university that you choose. If you pass exam, you become eligible for renewable and one year residence permit. To get more information, you need to contact with the university that you applied.
- Temporary long-stay visa: It called “visa de long séjour temporaire pour études” in France. Students can stay in France up to 6 months without residence permit. So you do not have to apply for residence permit. This visa cannot be renewed.
- Long-stay visa: It is also known as “visa de long séjour pour études”. If you study in France more than 6 months; you should apply long-stay visa. This is also used as residence permit and lasts for your study period. This period changes according to programme that you apply. For example; it is 3 years for bachelor’s degree education.
